Recipients of Excellence in Nursing Awards honored at 2nd Annual Event
St Petersburg General Hospital presented awards to winners at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park to honor the New Nurse, Intern/Resident, Nurse and Physician of the Year. Nurse recipients are voted on by the physicians and physician recipients are voted on by the nurses. All award recipients are judged on providing exceptional patient care.
The New Nurse of the Year award went to Samara Martinez, RN; the Intern/Resident of the Year award went to Amber Allen, DO; the Nurse of the Year award went to Kim Lockett, RN and the Physician of the Year award went to Rishi Modh, MD.
New Nurse of the Year
Samara Martinez, RN, Surgical Unit
Samara started in July of 2015 as a student nurse. She used that time to hone her skills and gain confidence in her practice. Upon graduation, Samara joined the staff as a new RN on the Surgical Unit. She continues to learn and grow as a nurse. Samara was recognized as never having to be asked twice to get things done! She always has a great attitude and truly cares about her patients.

Resident of the Year
Amber Allen, DO, Family Practice
Dr. Allen was recognized and nominated by every single nursing unit in the hospital. She was noted to always go above and beyond for her patients and her co-workers. She is awesome in every way! All noted that she listens carefully to nursing concerns and follows up to address them. Her care is always from the heart. Dr. Allen is very passionate and it is obvious she loves what she does.
Nurse of the Year
Kim Lockett RN- ICU Stepdown Unit
Kim joined St. Petersburg General Hospital in June of 2014 as a nurse on the Medical Telemetry Unit. Kim continued her growth by transitioning into the ICU. Since then Kim has transitioned to the role of Charge Nurse and was recently promoted to manager. Kim is very knowledgeable and was recognized as being kind, caring, empathetic and always has a positive attitude. Kim promotes health and wellness amongst the staff and patients.
Physician of the Year
Rishi Modh, MD, Urology
Dr. Modh joined St. Petersburg General in 2016 and has already made a significant impact on our nursing staff. He takes his time with his patients explaining and making sure they understand. Dr. Modh is very kind and easy going with his patients, making sure they feel comfortable and all their questions are answered. Nursing recognizes him as being very friendly with the staff and taking the time to explain things.
